What is BBL HERO?
The BBL HERO technology from Sciton is designed to treat the visible signs of ageing anywhere on the body, such as pigmentation, sun damage, redness and dullness. It uses powerful Broadband Light technology, known as BBL HERO to achieve this and treatments are comfortable with no downtime. BBL is an advancement on traditional IPL (intense pulsed light), as it is four times faster and three times more powerful. Because of its super-fast speed and power, it can quickly and effectively treat large areas such as the back, torso, arms and legs, as well as provide outstanding results for delicate tissue like the face. Results will be visible in one to four weeks.
How does the BBL HERO work?
BBL HERO is a body treatment that uses intense pulsed light (IPL) to target pigment within the skin. The type of IPL it uses is called Broadband Light IPL (BBL) with High Energy Rapid Output (HERO). It delivers short blasts of high-intensity light which means larger areas can be treated more quickly than before. Heat and energy from the device are absorbed by the skin, destroying and breaking down the pigment cells. Over the next few days your body will then remove the pigment cell particles affected by the light energy. The treatment triggers the body’s wound healing response which means it then generates new cells and boosts collagen production.
Who makes BBL Hero?
The BBL HERO body device is made by Sciton, a US-based company that specialises in advanced lasers and light sources to the aesthetic medical markets.
Is the BBL Hero treatment safe?
BBL treatment is non-invasive and very safe in untanned skin and is FDA cleared to treat Fitzpatrick I-V but it is not recommended for people with darker skin types(e.g.Fitz. VI). This is because melanin in the skin absorbs the light and can cause risk of burning, hypopigmentation, hyperpigmentation, and even scarring.
Is the BBL Hero treatment painful?
Most people just feel a warmth or a light snapping sensation during treatment. It is generally comfortable and easy to tolerate without the need for any anaesthetic or numbing cream.
How much does the BBL Hero treatment cost?
Expect to pay anywhere between £200-£400.
When will I see results from my BBL Hero treatment?
Most people can see a visible difference after just one treatment but two treatments are usually recommended for most people for optimal results. You may need more depending on how severe your pigmentation is. It usually takes between two and four weeks to see results.
Does the BBL Hero treatment have any side-effects?
Your skin may look a little pink afterwards, a bit like when you get a light sunburn. Treated pigment can also appear worse and darken in the days after treatment, although this is very normal and part of the healing process. The most important thing to do is to keep out of the sun and wear sunscreen (although this is good advice in general). This will help you avoid any worsening of pigmentation post-treatment as skin can be more sensitive to light.
Does the BBL Hero treatment have any possible complications?
The main risk would be burning or scarring. This is more likely on darker skin types but in inexperienced hands any skin type can suffer a burn from this type of treatment. Make sure you do your research and pick a qualified and experienced practitioner.
