Anti-pigmentation Serums
Anti-pigmentation serums can be used as part of a treatment for different types of skin hyperpigmentation, including sun damage and its related brown spots; post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, common in those who have suffered from acne and hormonally-driven pigmentation, known as “melasma” or “pregnancy mask”. Anti-pigmentation serums contain different ingredients but they generally work by either slowing down the rate at which pigment is made by the pigment-producing cells (melanocytes) or by preventing/slowing down the transfer of pigment into the surrounding skin cells (keratinocytes). The main ingredients that you’ll find in anti-pigmentation treatment serums are vitamin C, azelaic acid, liquorice extract, kojic acid, niacinamide, alpha hydroxy acids (such as lactic and glycolic acid), retinol, or tranexamic acid.
